Charities I Believe In

I just wanted to take a moment to call your attention to some special charities that I believe in :

The Little Rock Foundation for Blind Children: this all volunteer non-profit provides services and a one of a kind summer camp for blind kids of all ages. My husband Larry and I have hosted their major yearly fundraiser since the late 90's and feel it's a real privilege to watch LRF grow and change the lives of such special kids.

Named after the amazing little Rocco Fiorentino (who isn't so little anymore.)

The Little Rock charity improves the lives of thousands every year. I am proud to say that Tina and Big Rocco Firentino have become good friends of our family.

The March of Dimes: I chaired my first WalkAmerica back in the mid 90's. This incredible organization cradles preemies and disabled children as well as serves their families. This Spring we walked for My little nephew Jamie who is a miracle baby in our family. You never know when the charity you are volunteering for will one day help your loved one.. or you.

Autism Speaks: Every year we walk for our niece Kara Mia.. and hope that this wonderful organization helps solve the mystery of this national epidemic that strikes thousands of American children.

ECHOES Foundation. Helping build schools for little girls in Africa. This is a charity that my dear friend Lauren Hart supports during her frequent visits to Africa. Recently I had the pleasure of hosting ECHOES fundraiser which also honored Lauren for her dedication to helping hundreds of little African girls.

Lauren recently adopted a beautiful little girl from Africa. You, of course, know my good friend Lauren as the best anthem singer in all of sports...since Kate Smith!

Teenaers Inc: I've volunteered and hosted fundraisers recently and since the late 90's. This one of a kind group reaches out to teens thru social activities, counseling and tutoring.. serving tens of thousands of kids. Read about them in the Chestnut Hill Local by clicking here.

The Alzheimer's Assn: My family is involved and has also been helped by this incredible non profit. Both my husband's parents were stricken with this horrible disease. Each year I host fundraisers and the Philadelphia Alzheimer's Walk which is in the Fall. here is a picture of my son's - Michael, 5 and David, 2 - at this year's walk with Fox29's Bus Stop Buddy!

ALS, BILLY LAKE Foundation: My husband and I have supported this non profit.. now I'll become even more involved with the recent diagnosis of this horrible disease which struck my Mother Rosemary. This devastating, deadly disease continues to be a medical mystery.

Alex's Lemonade Stand: My husband and I are friend's with Liz and Jay Scott, the parents of Alex Scott, whose legacy lives on in the hearts of children across America. Alex and her legion of lemonade stands has raised over 25 million dollars to fight childhood cancer. My five year old son Michael is planning his first Alex's Lemonade Stand this summer.

"Blame Drew's Cancer": This week I attended one of Drew Olanoff's Philadelphia fundraiser's. He's an inspiration. My husband and I support him and I hope you will too. His next chemo treatment is next Monday. Say a prayer for Drew and if anything happens bad in your life, follow Drew's lead - use your humor - and Blame Drew's Cancer.
